What will you do as a Quality Manager?

The Quality Manager will play a pivotal role in ensuring that all products and processes meet internal and external standards for quality, food safety, and regulatory compliance. This role is factory focused and supports the Production team in embedding a culture of continuous improvement, operational efficiency, and excellence in food safety. The role also leads the internal audit programme and oversees the Quality Management System (QMS) and Good Manufacturing Practice (GMP) compliance.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Quality & Food Safety Leadership:

    • Support the FSQR Manager in driving site-wide food safety initiatives and ensuring compliance with all relevant legislation and standards.

    • Act as the primary liaison between cross-functional teams including Hygiene, Production, Engineering, Supply Chain, and New Product Development (NPD).

    • Lead the site’s response to quality and food safety issues, ensuring timely resolution and communication.

  • Audit & Compliance Management:

    • Manages and develop the internal audit programme, including QMS and GMP audits.

    • Working with the Technical Service Manager in maintaining third-party accreditations and certifications (e.g., BRCGS, ISO, customer-specific standards).

    • Host and lead customer and regulatory audits, coordinating input from relevant departments.

  • Corrective & Preventive Action (CAPA):

    • Generate and implement CAPA plans within defined deadlines.

    • Monitor effectiveness of corrective actions and drive continuous improvement initiatives.

  • Team Development & Coaching:

    • Mentor, coach, and develop the QA team and wider factory staff to build a strong quality culture.

    • Deliver training and support to ensure understanding and adherence to quality and food safety procedures.

  • Customer & Supplier Engagement:

    • Act as the technical point of contact for customers, attending meetings and addressing queries.

    • Investigate customer complaints and supplier issues, ensuring root cause analysis and corrective actions are completed and communicated effectively.

  • Operational Support:

    • Conduct internal and hygiene audits, ensuring findings are actioned and closed out.

    • Support production teams in implementing process improvements and efficiency gains.

    • Ensure all documentation and records are maintained in line with company and regulatory requirements.

  • Other Duties:

    • Undertake any other responsibilities reasonably associated with the role as required by the business.


Who are you?

  Required:

  • Proven experience in a Quality or Technical role within the food manufacturing industry.

  • Strong knowledge of food safety standards, HACCP, GMP, and QMS.

  • Experience leading audits and maintaining third-party certifications.

  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to influence across all levels.

  • Strong problem-solving skills and a proactive approach to continuous improvement.

  • Leadership experience with the ability to coach and develop teams.

  Desirable:

  • Lead Auditor qualification.

  • Experience with retailer standards (e.g., Iceland, Morrisons Tesco, Aldi).

  • Knowledge of allergen management and environmental monitoring.
